I Need a Student Visa

After you apply, UCAELI will do the following things:

  1. Enter you into the UConn system
  2. Email you in 24-48 hours with your login information
    • NetID
    • Peoplesoft Number
    • UConn email address
    • Placement Test Login Information
  3. When your I-20 is ready, UCAELI will send it to you along with your welcome packet. You will receive an email with a UPS tracking number and electronic copies of important forms in your welcome packet. There are three forms in your Welcome Packet that need to be filled out and returned to UCAELI 3 weeks before the start of the semester.The forms are:
    • Student Health History Form
    • Arrival Form
    • Emergency Contact Form

What do you need to do?

You will need to complete the following steps after UCAELI sends you your login information:

  1. Activate your NetID
  2. Request your I-20
  3. Pay Enrollment Deposit
  4. Complete the placement exams
  5. Activate your UConn email
  6. Log in to the Student Administration System
  7. Request On-Campus Housing (Optional)
  8. Return the three forms in the Welcome Packet

Your NetID is a unique online ID that allows you access to UConn’s online system.To activate your NetID you need to complete the following steps:

  1. Go to netid.uconn.edu
  2. Choose Activate NetID
  3. Type in your NetID
  4. Choose Social Security Number and Date of Birth
    • You will be sent a temporary social security number from UCAELI
  5. Create a new password

If you get an error message when activating your NetID please follow these steps:

  1. Email the UConn Help Center at helpcenter@uconn.edu.
  2. Send an email explaining your problem and include your Date of Birth in the email. You must use the personal email you used when you applied to UCAELI
  3. The Help Center will send you an activation code
  4. Follow these steps after you get the code
    1. Go to netid.uconn.edu and choose Activate NetID
    2. Type in your NetID
    3. Choose Activate NetID using Activation Code

Request an I-20 from International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).

In order to receive your I-20 you will need to prepare the following documents:

Copy of Passport You will need a copy of the full page that contains your biographic information.
You will also need to submit the passports’ of any dependents coming with you.
Financial Declaration Form The UConn Financial Declaration Form is available on the ISSS website.
If you are being funded by a personal sponsor they must complete Part 2: Personal Sponsor Declaration.
Proof of Funding The guidelines for funding can be found on the ISSS website
All funding documents must meet the following criteria
1. Issued within the past 3 months
2. In English
3. Bank statements must identify the account holder and the currency
4. Funding must be liquid funds such as a savings/banking statement or certificate of deposit. (no investment funds or salary confirmations)

Please note the enrollment deposit is non-refundable.

Conditional Students

The enrollment deposit for the Summer II 2020 Session is $150.00.  Please pay the enrollment deposit by clicking here Payment Store.

Online Academic English Program Students

The enrollment deposit for the Online Academic English Program is $150.00.  Please pay the enrollment deposit by clicking here Payment Store.

In-Person Classes

The enrollment deposit for in-person classes at UConn is $350.00. Please pay the enrollment deposit by clicking here Payment Store.

You will not receive your I-20 until you pay the enrollment deposit.

You will need to log into two separate testing websites in order to complete your placement exams. They are:

  1. The Oxford English Placement Exam
    • Your log in information will be sent to you by UCAELI
    • The organisation ID is 058640
  2. HuskyCT
    • Your log in information is your NetID and password

To activate your UConn email address follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://email.uconn.edu/g-suite/
  2. Click on the Activate/Reset Password button on the right
  3. Log in with your NetID and password
  4. Follow instructons
  1. Go to www.studentadmin.uconn.edu
  2. Log in using your NetID and password
  3. You are going to be asked to complete the FERPA waiver

In order to complete your housing application please do the following things

  1. Go to reslife.uconn.edu
  2. Click on Apply for Housing at the top
  3. Select Apply Online &MyHousing from the drop down menu
  4. Log in with your NetID and password
  5. Complete the Application

For UCAELI Summer Sessions please choose the Special Housing Dates option (#20) and fill in the following dates:

  • Summer I: May 18 – June 26
  • Summer II: July 13 – August 21
  • Both summer sessions: May 18 – August 21

Your course title or reason for special date session is: UCAELI

If you have received conditional admission to UConn you need to fill out the summer and fall housing applications by May 15, 2020.
