Intensive English Study – UCAELI Cares about Quality: UCAELI has been providing high quality Intensive English instruction on the University of Connecticut campus since 1990. Four weeks is short, so we have designed an intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program that allows intermediate to advanced students to make progress as quickly as possible. Classes are designed to improve communication skills, especially speaking and listening, through highly interactive student-centered activities. Small class size (15 students maximum) allows for more individualized instruction. Our teachers all hold masters degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). PLUS – The Extras that Make Learning Fun: Conversation Partners and the Community Exploration focus are just two of the unique features of Summer English PLUS. Conversation Partners are native English speakers who join students in a teacher-led class for four hours each week. This provides a very important opportunity for authentic practice. Community Exploration is the emphasis of the program that engages students in learning that is connected to exploring with the community beyond the classroom. Teachers present key vocabulary and give language-focused assignments before each trip. Trips focus on exploration of the University and surrounding community and New England history and culture. Classroom activities build on the knowledge, language and experiences gained during trips. AND MORE – Time for Exploring New Places: Full-day trips allow students to see more of the famous Connecticut destinations and cities we visit. Course materials connect to trips through specific lessons and projects. No language learning opportunities are missed! Several optional weekend activities are offered to ensure that there is always somewhere to go or something to do.
